Is it the best compressor ever? I don't know.but is certainly the best compressor I own. Having owned and used at least two other compressors I really appreciate the tonal qualities of the Keeley. If your definition of 'transparent' includes generating little, if any extraneous noise, and not 'coloring' your tone than this pedal certainly exemplifies transparency. With the sustain knob set at midway or below there was really no noticeable extraneous noise (again, unlike the CS-3 and Ross). Surprisingly, this comp really plays well with other pedals. Disclaimer: I'm certainly no expert on pedals or even 'tone' but if any fellow SQ members are looking for a new compressor the Keeley Compressor Plus would be an excellent choice! After trying both settings for my Strats, Teles and Esquire there was a very subtle difference (good) for each guitar. Perhaps the coolest feature of this compressor is the attack/release switch for either humbuckers or single coils. The level and tone knobs are your typical adjustments. The blend knob was cool, it adjusts levels for either a clean(er) or more compressed tone. While adjusting the sustain knob in the higher registers there was some slight noise generated.although not as much noise as the CS-3 at similar settings. There's four knobs: sustain, blend, level and tone. Initial impressions were it is definitely a quality build pedal (housing, jack, switches, etc.). Finally had a chance to check out the new Keeley Compressor Plus.
